We have always seen models walk the ramp in designer outfits. But a fashion show
recently held in the capital was quite unique in its own way. The designer
outfits was very much there, but the models were replaced by well known faces of
the fashion circuit who walked the ramp for Khushii, the NGO for underprivileged
kids. This time Khushii brought together India's leading style gurus at its
first fashion inspired event 'A Rendezvous with Elegance', conceptualized
exclusively by the newly inducted Governing Board Member, philanthropist by
nature and trendsetter in the fashion world- Leena Singh (Ashima – Leena). "The
statement that fashion designers are mostly associated with glamour, is not
true. We definitely think about the society and look in for various
opportunities to contribute. As a designer, all I could do was to communicate my
idea to other designers and they really liked the concept and got ready to
participate in this social cause" she explained. The memorable fashion show
witnessed Creations by 21 Indian designers, including Ranna Gill, Nikhil and
Shatanu, Varun Bahl, Rohit Bal, Rajesh Pratap Singh and many more with beautiful
ladies and accomplished gentlemen displayed the breathtaking ensembles. Seen
walking on ramp were Ramola Bachchan, Feroz Gujral, the very beautiful Kalyani

seen Ritu Kumar, Thenny, JJ Valaya, Gauri and Nainika, Mohd Azzarudin and Rina

who have came forward for this cause and presented such a grand show which was
not only enjoyable but also beneficial in some way or the other" Kapil said.

Payal Kapoor who is all set to debut in the upcoming fashion week. Though she
stayed non-committed on which fashion week will she showcase at, she is excited
about the developments and is keeping her fingers crossed for the same. The
designer, who believes in designing for the modern woman, takes her inspiration
from nature, events and objects around the world. Her brand – Famous – talks
about the fusion of the traditional with the modern. Payal expressed, "I have
used a range of fabrics starting from chiffons, georgettes, cotton and lace
which is a blend of viscose and polyester. Being a textile designer myself,
tie-n-dye has been one of the techniques which I have applied a lot in my
creations." The plethora of colours which appears in this art of dyes really
comes out well on the fabrics. Talking about the colour palette, she revealed
that coral, light pink, blue, salmon, turquoise and red are used
extensively.Since the designer is targeting contemporary women between the age
group of 25-60 years, the collection presents a subtle yet trendy look with very
minimal embellishments which have been accentuated by a bit of shine sprinkled
everywhere. Clothes have been adorned with yellow and blue coloured stones, with
touches of Swarovski crystals which offer a sophisticated look to the ensembles.
Borrowing inspiration from the Indian sari drapes, the silhouettes are
underlined with full body drapes which according to the designer are simple yet
slightly tweeted. Stocked at the Samsaara store, the collection comprises
tunics, dresses, gowns and kurtis. "Kurtis are going to be a big style statement
even in the next season. These are wardrobe essentials." she concluded.
